Project scope
Comprehensive mechanical retrofit
Through a comprehensive mechanical overhaul and meticulous refurbishment, this machine was prepared for many more years of reliable and precise operation.
Before the refurbishment work began, the machine was professionally dismantled and safely loaded for transport by our experienced service team at the customer's site. It was then transported to our facility, where it underwent a thorough inspection, complete disassembly, and professional cleaning. A comprehensive functional inspection, including a detailed geometric assessment, identified the components that required replacement or refurbishment to restore the machine to optimum technical condition. All work was carried out to the highest quality standards, resulting in a mechanically refurbished machine whose condition is comparable to that of a new machine.
The refurbishment included the following work:
- Complete disassembly and cleaning of the machine
- Replacement of the grinding spindle bearings
- Replacement of the rotary table bearings
- Installation of new drive belts for the rotary table
- Replacement of the Z-axis guide rails and roller guide blocks
- Replacement of the Z-axis ball screw bearings
- Installation of new drive belts for the Z-axis
- Replacement of the dressing quill
- Installation of a new motor for the dresser cross-feed
- Installation of new bellows covers for the Y- and Z-axes
- Repainting of the working enclosure and all refurbished machine components with a high-quality coating system in RAL 5010 (Gentian Blue) and RAL 9001 (Cream)
Particular attention was paid to the rotary table, which—together with the grinding spindle—is one of the key components of a rotary table surface grinding machine. Achieving consistently high grinding accuracy depends on the rotary table running with exceptional flatness and precision. For this reason, the assembly was subjected to a particularly thorough inspection. The measurement results confirmed that it was in excellent condition, making any mechanical rework unnecessary. As a preventive measure, only the rotary table drive belt was replaced during the overhaul.
In contrast, the Z-axis required more extensive work. The guide rails were completely replaced and then aligned with the highest level of precision. At the same time, new roller guide blocks were installed, and the Z-axis ball screw was fitted with new bearings.
Particular emphasis was placed on the machine's long-term durability. The new bellows covers provide reliable protection for the guideways and drive components against contamination and coolant, ensuring that the refurbished mechanical systems maintain their precision and performance over many years of operation.
The overhaul was completed with a full repaint using a high-quality two-component coating system. In addition to giving the machine a first-class appearance, this coating provides long-lasting protection against corrosion and other external influences.
The result is a grinding machine restored to an excellent technical and visual condition, meeting the highest standards of precision, reliability, and long-term value.
