Project scope
Geometric overhaul
As with all comprehensive refurbishment projects, the DANOBAT R3-4000-S5 was first completely dismantled down to its main structural assemblies. Following thorough cleaning, all components were carefully inspected for wear and functionality. Defective and worn parts were either repaired or replaced before the machine was reassembled.
The primary focus of this project was the restoration of the machine geometry. In a CNC cylindrical grinding machine, precise machine geometry is essential for achieving maximum accuracy and consistently reproducible grinding results. Even the slightest geometric deviations have a direct impact on machining quality. For this reason, the guideways of the X- and Z-axes, as well as the intermediate and upper tables, were precision-ground. In addition, the centre height of the headstock and tailstock was precisely realigned to restore the machine's original geometry.
The refurbishment included, among others, the following work:
- Precision grinding of the X- and Z-axis guideways
- Precision grinding of the intermediate and upper tables
- Realignment of the headstock and tailstock centre height
- Replacement of the X- and Z-axis ball screws
- Replacement of the complete machine wiring
- Replacement of all hydraulic hoses and piping
- Installation of new bellows covers
- Replacement of worn components following technical inspection
- Complete reassembly of the machine
- Repainting with a high-quality two-component coating system in RAL 7035 (Light Grey) and RAL 5007 (Brilliant Blue)
Following reassembly, all relevant machine assemblies underwent careful geometric fine adjustment. The guideways, headstock, tailstock, and axis systems were precisely aligned and inspected, restoring the level of accuracy required for a CNC cylindrical grinding machine. Only through these meticulous adjustment procedures can consistently high machining quality be ensured over the long term.
Upon completion of all work, the DANOBAT R3-4000-S5 was restored to an excellent technical and visual condition. Thanks to the restored machine geometry, the comprehensive overhaul of key assemblies, and the thorough final inspection, the machine once again delivers the precision, reliability, and performance expected of a high-quality CNC cylindrical grinding machine, meeting even the most demanding production requirements.
