Project scope
Mechanical and control system retrofit
The modernization of this DAINICHI H-NC 160 began, as with every machine modernization project, with transportation of the machine to our facility, followed by complete dismantling and thorough cleaning of all assemblies. Even before the machine was fully disassembled, it was evident that, in addition to the mechanical refurbishment, the control system retrofit would be the primary focus of this project.
The centerpiece of the modernization was the replacement of the existing, outdated control system with a modern SIEMENS SINUMERIK 840D featuring ShopTurn. To accomplish this, a completely new electrical cabinet was built, and the machine's entire electrical system was upgraded to current technological standards.
The machine was equipped with new axis motors, axis drives, and a new main spindle motor together with a matching drive controller. In addition, the complete machine wiring was replaced, and all measuring systems were renewed. As a result, the machine's electrical equipment now meets the latest technological standards and provides the foundation for reliable, precise, and efficient operation.
However, a control system retrofit of this scale involves far more than simply replacing individual components. Following the mechanical and electrical installation, the machine had to undergo complete PLC recommissioning. All axes, drives, and machine functions were parameterized, programmed, and tested from the ground up. Mechanical travel limits had to be redefined and transferred to the control system, reference points established, and all safety and machine functions comprehensively verified. Only through this meticulous recommissioning process does a modernized machine become a reliable production system once again.
In addition to the electrical modernization, the project also included the following work:
- Complete dismantling and thorough cleaning of all machine assemblies
- Inspection of all mechanical components for wear, functionality, and dimensional accuracy
- Replacement of all worn or defective components
- Refurbishment and adjustment of the mechanical assemblies
- Comprehensive functional and safety testing prior to delivery
- Repainting of all moving machine components with a high-quality two-component textured coating system
Upon completion of the project, the DAINICHI H-NC 160 was restored to an excellent technical and visual condition. Thanks to the comprehensive retrofit, the machine is now equipped with a modern control system, high-performance drive technology, and significantly improved operational reliability, ensuring dependable performance for many years to come.
